Coarse sediment: the Folk-5 gravel and shell class
Coarse sediment is one of the five Folk-5 classes. It is gravel and shell, not a second sand and not rock.
The parent is Folk-5 seabed. The neighbouring transition is mixed sediment. Check a pin on the habitat checker.
Definition
Coarse substrate is the gravel and shell bin in the five-class model. Mixed sediment sits between sand and rock. Coarse is its own named class.
Where the data comes from
The class comes from EMODnet Geology, the same substrate layer as mud, sand, mixed, and rock. This page does not add a class code.
How to read it on the chart
If the pin says coarse, you are on the harder mixed ground the chart can name. Fish the change into sand or rock, not the middle of a bin, the same way the other classes work.
Examples
The Folk-5 parent already names mixed and coarse as transition zones. Murter is one place the parent cites for a coarse band. This page does not add a new town list.

Frequently asked questions
- Does coarse have a page?
- Yes. This is that page. Mud to sandy mud has its own page too. Sand, mixed, and rock already did.
