Squid and cuttlefish on the Adriatic: night window, not a sand-edge sit
Squid and cuttlefish share this page. They are a night window, not a sand-orada sit. The model names both in the anchor species list. Public place cards still list orada, mackerel, bonito and pandora. This page does not add squid to those cards. Season lives on squid season. A habitat score is a model match, not a fish count.
The parent is Adriatic species the chart models. Latin stays on Loligo vulgaris and Sepia officinalis. Orada and town guides will not grow a squid paragraph. Come here for the animals.
Night window, not a noon sit
These animals are a dark-hour job on this corridor. July noon on a bathing belt is the wrong picture. Dawn pelagics have their own URL. If the week is heat and glare, read summer pelagics or stay on structure. If the week is a night window, stay here.
The chart does not count squid under the pin. It matches habitat the model knows. Empty public cards stay off. Empty is more honest than a borrowed night-mark list.
Work from a hull sit more often than from a packed quay. Anchor fishing is the mode that already names squid and cuttlefish in setup. Longline on this product targets sea bream and pandora, not this pair. There is no squid longline guide.
Squid (Loligo vulgaris)
European squid on this chart wants a working belt that is not the shallowest sand plate. Depth in the model sits from about ten metres into the thirties, with the peak in the twenties. It likes an edge and moderate roughness, not a featureless flat and not a vertical wall.
That is still not a secret contour. Read class. Then metres. Then score. If the pin is empty sand in two metres, you are on the orada miss, not this fish. If the pin is rock and drop, you may be on dentex water. Squid can pass an edge. It does not turn Rovinj into a night encyclopedia.
The live raster the product uses for squid is a winter habitat layer. That is why season is a sibling URL. This page owns the animals. The calendar owns the window.
Italy overlays are incomplete for several modes. A chip on Trieste is not a certified Italian squid product. Read coverage.
Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis)
Cuttlefish is the second name on this page. Soft bottom and mild cover matter more than a steep wall. Depth in the model sits deeper than squid: from the mid-thirties toward the nineties, with the peak in the fifties. That is still a planning band, not a sounding. Not for navigation.
Umag flats and Rimini sand are not a tourist night tour just because cuttlefish appears on a menu. Soft mixed belts can be honest when the overlay has work to do. Rock-first towns stay rock-first.
The live raster for cuttlefish is also a winter habitat layer. Same split: animals here, months on squid season. Model accuracy for cuttlefish is lower than for squid on the public snapshot. Limits live on model accuracy.
Score is a model match
A habitat score does not say squid are under the pin tonight. It says the pin looks like habitat the model knows. Depth, edge, roughness and the winter layer go into that match. It is not a census or a catch log.
Read what a habitat score is. Public teasers cap the number. Green peaks stay in VIP. The Habitat Checker still lets you compare nearby pins. Compare same class. A high number on the wrong depth band is still the wrong sit.
If the public card would show no zones, the card stays off. The pin is the claim.
How you sit this pair
Start with class. Sand edges at two to eight metres are still an orada conversation. Mixed slightly off that sand is often pandora. Squid wants an edge in a deeper working belt. Cuttlefish wants softer ground deeper still. If those disagree, believe class and overlay, not the harbour name.
Correct ten to thirty metres if the first drop is mute. Do not steam a new gulf because the first night was quiet. Stay-ashore still applies: jugo, flood colour, ferry water.
Licence is a jurisdiction fact. This page will not reprint 2026 prices. Croatia shore versus boat stays on its guide. Guests on a skipper's boat still need their own recreational document unless that parent says otherwise.
Italy and Slovenia
If you already sleep on the Italian strip, treat a night sit as a method you already know, checked against coverage. Do not pick Italy as a substitute Istria night week. Slovenia is a short coast. If you already sleep in Koper or Piran, use those place pages. This page is still the animals, not a new country.
Lagoon interiors are out of the NE Italy hub. There is no Venice squid guide.
Checker
Drop a pin only if you already have a sea-side start. Town pages prefill. This page does not. Compare nearby points on the same class, not across a gulf. Ten to thirty metres is a correction. A new harbour is not.
If the first night is mute, change hour or stay in. There is no published marks list because a winter raster exists. The raster is habitat. The night is still weather.
Pelagics remain a moving dawn line. This pair remains a night sit. Both can appear in an anchor dropdown. That dropdown is setup. The jobs stay separate.
This page will not become a second corridor calendar. A rough night is still a night to stay in. Whiting, hake and the rest of the anchor dropdown are not extra habitat guides. Public cards stay four species.

Frequently asked questions
- Why one page for two animals?
- They share a night window and winter habitat layers. One page covers both. Pelagics already use one page for three fish.
- Will place pages grow a squid paragraph?
- No. Public cards stay orada, mackerel, bonito and pandora. Come here for the animals.
- Is this a July product?
- Usually not. The season sibling owns the window. Heat and glare belong to other pages.
- Does a high score mean they are there tonight?
- No. Model match. Then hour. Then sea state.
