What you will learn: how to turn chart detail and fishing overlays on or off so the map is readable, not noisy.

How to open: bottom Layers (phone) or top Layers (desktop)
Layers never change your fishing mode. They only change what is painted on the chart. Close the sheet when you are done — the map stays as you left it.
Chart — depth cues you use every cast

If the chart looks empty, zoom in. Soundings and tight contours need a closer view. The status strip on desktop names the level of detail (LOD) you currently have.
Fishing overlays

| Bathymetry | Colourful depth map of the seafloor (in Chart look this label becomes Depth map) |
| Shore distance | How far a point is from land — useful for shore fishing and for staying in range |
| Seabed habitat | Bottom type (sand, rock, seagrass / posidonia, and similar classes from the habitat map) |
When Seabed habitat is on, an Opacity slider appears (0–100%). Lower opacity if colours hide the contours you need to steer by.
Legends
In the layers sheet you can open Show legends. Legends explain colours for the active extras: fish score, habitat, SST, currents, fishing effort, and species habitat maps. Open a legend when you are unsure whether green means “good” or “shallow”.
Chart look (optional)
If you enabled Chart look under More / Experimental, the layers sheet also gets a Basemap choice: Satellite or Map. See Chart look.
Tips for a readable chart
- Start with Depth contours on and Bathymetry on at medium zoom.
- Add Seabed habitat when you care about sand vs rock vs grass.
- Turn Shore distance on for shore jigging and surfcasting.
- Turn extras off when you draw a route so the line is easy to tap.
None of these layers are for official navigation. The map repeats Not for navigation in the status strip.
