What you will learn: what happens when you tap the sea, how to read the card, and how to open the same place in Google Maps.
Card title: Zone summary
Subtitle: Depth, bottom, and access for this drop
How to open: tap open water on the map (not a button, not a sheet).
This is the fastest way to ask: “If I dropped here, what is under me?”
How to inspect
- Pan to the area you care about. Zoom in until the chart looks sharp.
- Tap (or click) the water.
- The Zone summary card appears with measurements for that point.
On a phone the card may sit as a sheet above the bottom bar so it is not hidden. Close it with Close or by tapping the close control.
GPS locate can also fill inspect after the map flies to you. See Find your location.
What the card shows
Not every field is filled everywhere. Empty or missing values show Not available at this location.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Depth | Water depth in metres at the point (from the bathymetry grid) |
| Bottom | Seabed class where the habitat map has it |
| Access | For shore-oriented modes: whether the drop is within a typical cast, a long cast, or beyond usual casting range, plus distance from shore |
| Habitat | Habitat / score snippet for the active species context |
| Why {species} | Short reasons: right depth, relief/structure match, bottom match |
| Score details | Likelihood and Score {n}, plus components: depth suitability, structure/relief, bottom type |
| Basics | Species, season, slope, roughness, thermocline, sea surface temperature, bottom temperature — when those layers or models apply |
In SST or currents mode the card is enriched with temperature or current fields instead of (or as well as) fishing scores.
Open in Google Maps opens the same coordinates in Google Maps so you can drive / walk / share a pin with crew who do not use AlgoCatch. Coordinates also appear as longitude, latitude.
Recommended zones on the card
If you already ran Zone finder, the card can list Recommended zones. Tap a zone to focus the map. Zone finder on the card is the same search: pick Target species, tap Recommend zones.
Depth check
When a depth is shown, you may also see a short depth verification form (Yes / Unsure / No). That helps improve the map for everyone. See Depth verification. It is optional.
If inspect is empty or wrong
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens on tap | Close open sheets. Make sure you tapped water, not a control. Overlay chrome is designed to ignore empty space. |
| “Not available at this location” | You may be on land, outside coverage, or on a cell with no depth. Move the tap into the sea inside the Adriatic coverage. |
| Depth looks unbelievable | Zoom in, compare with Depth soundings, then optionally submit depth verification. |
| Card is behind the bottom bar | Scroll the sheet up; this was a known mobile issue and the card should sit above the bar. |
Inspect is a planning readout. Do not treat it as a survey-grade sounding.
