What you will learn: how the locate button works, what the teal marker means, and what to do if the browser refuses location.
Button name: locate / Go to my current location
Where: bottom bar on a phone; toolbar on desktop.
Locate does not track you in the background. It asks once (or until you revoke permission), then flies the map to that point.
Use locate
- Tap the locate control.
- If the browser asks Allow location, choose Allow.
- A teal marker appears on the map. The camera moves there (usually at least zoom 12).
- Inspect may open for that point so you can read depth immediately.
While it runs, related screens say Finding your location… / Locating….
If it fails
| Message or behaviour | What to do |

| Browser permission denied | In the browser site settings, allow Location for app.algocatch.com, then try again. Safari and Chrome bury this under the lock icon next to the address. |
| “Map is not ready yet.” | Wait until the chart finishes loading, then tap locate again. |
| “Your location is outside your allowed map area.” | Some accounts are limited to a region. You are standing (or the GPS thinks you are) outside that box. Pan the map inside coverage, or contact support if that is unexpected. |
| “Couldn’t get location. Pick a harbour or explore yourself.” | First-run sheet fallback. Use a harbour preset. See Your first session. |
| Marker is inland or hundreds of metres off | Phone GPS is weak indoors. Step outside, wait for a lock, try again. |
Desktop computers often have no GPS. Locate then uses a coarse network estimate or fails. Pick a harbour or pan manually.
Privacy
Other anglers cannot see your live position. Locate is for your map camera only.
