SST, currents and fishing effort: three layers, one planning job

NOT FOR NAVIGATION. Sea-surface temperature, currents and fishing effort are three planning layers on one URL. They help you choose an hour and a line. They do not steer a hull. They do not replace what the chart shows. They do not replace a plotter. The job split is chart versus plotter. Coverage says where the feeds are live. In-app buttons stay knowledge how-tos.

Warm surface and slack current at noon are a poor pelagic search. Dawn with a readable line is the visitor window. Effort is where people already went, not a fish count. Summer pelagics owns the season slice. This page owns the three layers.

Sea-surface temperature

SST is the skin of the sea, from a model and satellite pipeline. Pelagic fish often relate to temperature breaks. Bottom fish may not. The layer can lag, have gaps, or change as the feed improves.

Use it as context for a moving search: is there a break, is the surface cooked, is dawn still cooler along a line you can repeat. Do not fold SST into Folk-5. Class is still class. Metres without class are still half a plan.

Currents

Currents help you plan a drift, a trolling heading, or whether a harbour mouth is pushing. They are model fields, not a tide almanac. Particles and inspect values are planning aids. They are not a navigation current atlas.

Fishing effort

Fishing effort is a prediction of where fishing activity is likely to concentrate: aggregation pressure, not a live plot of boats, and not a habitat score for a species. Use it as a “will this mark be crowded” hint, together with habitat and structure. It will not tell you who is out tonight.

VIP in the app. Free users see a lock. Empty on Free is honest. A public teaser is not the effort layer.

Effort is not a bag limit. Keep rules live on the jurisdiction map. Effort is not a fish count. Score remains a model match on the habitat side.

How to read them together

For a summer pelagic pass: SST and current first, then whether the line is already pressured. Then trolling, then often an anchor. For a structure sit: Folk-5 first. SST is secondary. Effort tells you if the edge is a car park.
