What you will learn: how to click a trolling line or longline on the chart, finish it, and read length.
Buttons: Draw Route (trolling) or Draw Longline (longline)
Where: Tools, and on desktop also the bottom status strip.
Use draw when you already know the contour you want to follow (a 20 m edge, a harbour wall, a drop-off) and you do not want the computer to invent the path.
Draw a line
- Switch to Trolling or Longline.
- Tap Draw Route or Draw Longline. The map uses a crosshair cursor.
- Tap the start point on the water.
- Tap each next vertex along the path you want to run. A live length (and for trolling, time at your setup speed) updates as you go.
- Finish with the finish control once you have at least two points.
- Open stats if they appear (Route Statistics / Longline Statistics) to review the line.
- Optionally save the route.
Longline vs trolling
Longline drawing uses metres of gear in mind; trolling thinks in nautical miles and speed. The gesture is the same: tap, tap, finish.
If draw will not start or finish
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No draw button | You are not in Trolling or Longline. Weather and habitat modes do not draw tracks. |
| “Route must have at least 2 points” | Add a second tap before finishing. |
| Hard to tap exactly | Zoom in. Turn off heavy overlays in Layers. |
| Accidental extra vertex | Restart draw, or edit/delete after finish if the editor offers it. |
Drawing does not spend your daily suggestion quota. Quota only applies to Suggest routes.
