NE Italy (Trieste–Ancona)

Fishing Chioggia

Chioggia is the working southern gate of the Venetian lagoon, closer to Po sediment than to tourist Lido beaches. AlgoCatch covers the sea-side approaches on the north-east Italian strip: inspect depth and habitat, certified gilthead/pandora/scorpionfish anchors, hillshade and the generic fish heatmap. Harbour traffic, lagoon rules and soft river-influenced bottom shape the day. This is not south-of-Ancona Italy and not a promise that trolling or shore jigging is complete here.

Species in the model

Gilthead and pandora first. Scorpionfish on harder patches. Do not advertise brancin, trolling pelagics or shore-jigging species as Italy-complete.

Access and trip shape

A working fishing harbour: arrive early, leave clear of commercial traffic, return before afternoon wind. Typical outing 3-6 hours. Shore access exists but is busy in season.

This is Italian water on the Trieste-Ancona strip. Recreational rules, harbour limits and any AMP or lagoon restriction are yours to check. AlgoCatch does not sell a permit and does not draw every reserve. Recreational rules.

Water character

Softer, river-influenced water than Istria. Colour changes after floods and jugo. Mixed Folk-5 plates rather than steep rock walls.

Season

March-May: gilthead as water warms. Summer needs dawn. September-November often best after tourist traffic drops. After Po floods, wait for colour to settle.

Techniques

Read the mouth, then anchor on a substrate edge. Do not invent marks inside restricted lagoon channels. Shore jigging and extra anchors stay unverified for this strip.

Depths and bottom

Often 2-18 m in the working approaches. River and lagoon water keep it shallow. Structure and colour count more than depth.

Under a working pin the chart reads Folk-5 mixed, sand. Colour and substrate decide more than chasing metres.

Conditions and when to stay ashore

Harbour traffic is real. Flood colour can shut a day. Licence, lagoon and AMP rules stay yours.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chioggia the same as the Po Delta?
No. Chioggia is the harbour gate. Po Delta approaches are the softer river-mouth water to the south, a separate guide.
Can I treat this as all of east Italy?
No. Official coverage stops at Ancona. Chioggia is Veneto, not Puglia.
Do I need an Italian licence in Chioggia?
Yes. Chioggia is Italian water. Lagoon bylaws can sit on top of the recreational licence. AlgoCatch does not sell licences.
When should I stay ashore in Chioggia?
Stay ashore after flood colour, in harbour traffic you cannot clear, and when a jugo spoils the sea-side edges.
