What you will learn: what a “mode” is, how to switch, and which modes are free.
Sheet title: Fishing Modes
Subtitle: Sets how the map thinks
How to open: tap the mode pill in the top bar (it shows the current mode, for example Trolling).
This is the single most important choice on the map. The same stretch of coast is planned differently for trolling than for surfcasting.
What a mode changes
When you pick a mode, AlgoCatch:
- Shows setup that belongs to that style (species, depth band, spearfishing technique, …)
- Offers tools for that style (draw a route, find zones, find braks, …)
- Scores water for the species list of that mode — shore jigging is not the same list as surfcasting
You pick once, the sheet closes, the map updates. You can switch as often as you like.
Core modes
Under Core modes:
| Mode (full name) | Short label | Typical use | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trolling | Trolling | Moving the boat, lure or bait on the way | Free |
| Anchor | Anchor | Boat stopped, fishing a mark | Free |
| Longline | Longline | Setting a longline | Free |
| Shore Jigging | Shore | Casting metals / jigs from rocks and walls | VIP |
| Surfcasting | Surf | Long casts from beach or low shore | VIP |
| Spearfishing | Spear | Freediving / spear | VIP |
Free accounts still see Shore, Surf, and Spear in the list. They show as VIP locked. Tapping them opens the upgrade dialog (Unlock {mode} for spot finding) instead of switching the map. That is intentional — you can see what exists.
Full how-tos:
Weather and experimental modes
Those are not in this sheet. They live under More (phone) or Weather / Experimental (desktop):
- SST heatmap and Currents — ocean condition views (beta)
- Habitat layers — species colour maps
- Fishing effort — predicted aggregation (VIP)
Switching to a habitat or weather mode changes the map overlay. Switch back to a core mode when you want spot finder / route tools again.
